In different church traditions, it is sung during the evening or morning service. It is dedicated to Christian Grube, the former head of the Staats- und Domchor Berlin, who also performed it with his choir t its premiere on 25 May in Stuttgart. About Our Music. Support the Singers. About the Concert. As a young composer in the late s, he experimented with a variety of avant garde techniques, including tone serial composition, the first Estonian composer to do so.

The last of his early works, Credo in Jesum Christum , was both a statement of faith and taken as political provocation. It brought him further attacks and censorship — so much so that he stopped composing altogether for nearly eight years.

He also moved from his Lutheran roots to an abiding interest in the music and aesthetic world of the Eastern Orthodox church an interest that also inspired the music of John Tavener. He returned to Tallinn, Estonia, in where he now lives. He and his work have received highest honors from governments, universities, and musical organizations around the world. Magnificat anima mea Dominum, et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salvatore meo, quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae.

My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden. Ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes, quia fecit mihi magna, qui potens est, et sanctum nomen eius, et misericordia eius in progenies et progenies timentibus eum.

For behold, from henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty has done great things to me, and holy is his name.

And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations. Fecit potentiam in brachio suo, dispersit superbos mente cordis sui; deposuit potentes de sede et exaltavit humiles; esurientes implevit bonis et divites dimisit inanes. He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their seat and has exalted the humble and meek.

He has filled the hungry with good things and the rich he has sent away empty. Suscepit Israel puerum suum, recordatus misericordiae, sicut locutus est ad patres nostros, Abraham et semini eius in saecula.

Remembering his mercy, he has helped his servant Israel as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed forever. The Providence Singers Inc.

I love his music, and I love the fact that he is such a brave, talented man. He's completely out of step with the zeitgeist and yet he's enormously popular, which is so inspiring.

Magnificat (Pärt)

Its performance time is approximately seven minutes. The concept of tintinnabuli was born from a deeply rooted desire for an extremely reduced sound world which could not be measured, as it were, in kilometres, or even metres, but only in millimetres By the end the listening attention is utterly focused. At the point after the music has faded away it is particularly remarkable to hear your breath, your heartbeat, the lighting or the air conditioning system, for example. Structurally, the work can be divided into what Hillier refers to as " verse " and " tutti " sections. The tutti sections make use of either three, four, or six voice parts.
